The 2007/08 campaign is sure to be a significant one in the history of Aston Villa football Club. It is 25 years since Villa landed the European Cup and the celebrations in honour of that brilliant side were one of the highlights of last term the first for new manager Martin O’Neill and American owner Randy Lerner.
As we at 32Red.com begin our second season as sponsors of the Premier League side expectations are high that the side will improve dramatically on their first term under the tutelage of the brilliant O’Neill when the side finished eleventh in the Premiership having drawn too many games they ought to have won. Having been given away ties at Chelsea and Manchester United in the Carling and FA Cup respectively it was not the most fortuitous of campaigns at Villa Park although there were distinct signs of progress with the development of Gabby Agbonlahor, the signing of the highly promising Ashley Young and the continued excellence of Club captain Gareth Barry.
Many of the Villa faithful have been frustrated by O’Neill’s lack of big name signings during the summer, but the capture of Nigel Reo-Coker has added bite to the midfield and it would be no surprise to see a couple more big names arrive at Villa Park prior to transfer deadline on 31st August.
These are indeed exciting times at a resurgent Villa under a new and dynamic management regime and we at 32Red are delighted to be associated with the biggest Club in England’s second city and one on the verge of a return to the very top of English football’s elite.
